(I was a mentor for another faculty member at another participating institution.) It also allowed me to share 我在两次会议上的经验,以及与他人进行富有成效的对话 faculty at Skidmore. The conversations we had with Civic Engagement These were collected for the first time in the spring 2018 semester. Broader conversations on campus about 上学期对公民参与课程的评估特别有用 for my class.

My goal 是与其他教授ACE课程的教师联系,学习更多火博体育评估/反思的知识 methods, and share my experiences with junior faculty.

The readings also change every year according to the service-learning project students pursue. Over the years, we worked with Sustainable Saratoga several times. They trusted our students to work with them and address their needs. For example, students in my Political Ecology 最后,班级向市政官员做了一个火博体育市区垃圾回收的报告 of the semester. They were very responsible and proud of their work! We also invited Sustainable Saratoga

I continue to teach an academic civic engagement course. There are more Project Pericles

Sarah DiPasquale, associate professor and chair of dance

在这个项目中,我们制作了3到5分钟的舞蹈视频,然后我们 put out in conjunction with PBS Learning Media. We put these out nationally for teachers 在日常课堂上作为大脑休息或作为帮助学生的活动来利用 focus before moving on to their academics. Sort of like a “movement break.”

And so during this experience, students learned to recognize 他们的角色/潜在角色在帮助解决我们作为一个社会所面临的问题 is extremely important and valuable.

Dance is for everyone, right? And I think that’s something that people are still starting to learn to this day. Dance isn't just for people who study it for decades, it is for all of us.

在第一堂课上,一个三年级的学生不想跳舞,不想去上课, and was just nervous about the whole process. However, by the end of the experience I watched him go

Which I think is still being studied and yet to be answered.

Evan Mack and David Howson image

(L) Evan Mack (Senior Teaching Professor in the Music Department) and (R) David Howson Arthur Zankel Program)
By Lila Norton (’24)

Teaching 让我对自己的教学方法,自己的学习有了更深的反思,最终 made me a better performer and composer.

Howson: 我成为一名教师是因为我有很棒的老师,我记得他们对我的影响有多大 teachers were on me, and how I could be an influence in others.

Howson: I love learning through teaching my students. Every year is different so you're constantly 重塑你自己,你的教学方法,你的课程,你的教学大纲,以满足需求 of today's students. I like that evolution, and this constant reinvention.

I find that conversations This 帮助我在一个层面上建立联系,但也创造了距离,因为我还活着 at a further distance from when they were born.

Howson: 跟上学生的步伐是很有挑战性的,必须不断地改造课程 to keep it interesting and engaged; it's me then pivoting to ensure that the ultimate goal is to learn and reflect. And just when you think you've nailed it like—"yes, 上学期太棒了,我要再说一遍" -不,不是这样的, 你必须不断调整,因为每个教室都不一样.

I used to bring guest speakers up from the city as well as local folks to the classroom; however, now that you have 从洛杉矶、芝加哥或印第安纳州放大某人的能力,你可以做到 在某种程度上更广泛,同时也带来了不同的视角,而无需处理 有了两天的旅行和大量的旅行费用,这最终更容易 the speaker.

The old tricks we knew that worked in the physical classroom, mostly did not work or translate directly into the virtual classroom. So, the biggest challenge 对我来说是明白我不能只是复制我在物理上所做的 课堂,并期望它直接进入缩放课堂,而是重新创造活动, learning, and discussions to fit the students' needs.

Mack: 我做了一些事情,我设置了两个摄像头,这样他们就能看到我并排 then switch my camera so they could have an overhead view. I actually found that students Also, I would ask 学生们给我发一段他们打球的视频,然后用这五分钟来称重 in.
